Icon Recognised in Best Places to Work in TV 2017

Bristol’s Icon Films recognised amongst Top 20 Best Places to Work in UK TV industry.

Bristol-based leading independent UK TV production company Icon Films has once again been recognised amongst the top 20 places to work in TV in the UK.

The company which employs more than 70 people produces some of the most popular factual TV programmes on US and UK TV including ‘River Monsters’ and ‘Savage Kingdom’, and have the upcoming film ‘Andrew Marr: My Brain and Me airing on BBC 2 on Tuesday 14th February’.

The award run by industry bible, Broadcast magazine, aims to recognise the best places to work in the broadcasting and TV industry. The results are compiled from both employer and confidential employee questionnaires and surveys.

Icon Films is dedicated to supporting emerging local TV talent and has recruited a number of the company’s new entrants as runners through collaboration with local organisations such as Creative Youth Network. The company runs an apprenticeship scheme, alongside an internal mentoring scheme and has an extensive work experience programme that works with students from across Bristol as well as more mature entrants to the industry. Icon Films is committed to the professional development of both staff and freelancers through external formal courses that include training in production, First Aid, remote trauma, risk assessment, finance, management development and camera skills as well as informal in-house Lunch and Learns.

The survey noted that employees particularly appreciated working in a company where safety is a priority, they had excellent working conditions,  they liked their work and colleagues, and felt they were valued and treated with respect. In 2017 the company is actively expanding its wellbeing programme, which includes exercise and mindfulness classes, free cereal and fruit and regular subsidised lunches.

Managing Director of Icon Films, Laura Marshall said “The leadership team at Icon Films are thrilled that we have been cited in this survey and that the thought and hard work that goes into running a company is recognised and appreciated by those who work with us”.
