Documentary Highlights at Encounters Short Film Festival 2012, supported by Icon Films

THE WAY TO DOCUMENTARY
What do documentarians do all day?  What does the career path look like?  This session will answer some of those questions.  Panellists with different career paths, experiences and perspectives will share their views – television commissioner, indie producer, shooting director, festival organiser. The session is designed to be interactive with questions welcomed by the panellists.

DOCUMENTARY – PITCH PERFECT
Presented by the London Film Academy
In this practical workshop you will learn what to focus on when embarking on a new project and how to prepare a structured speech that will allow you to get out everything about your idea that you need to in a reasonable amount of time. This session will show you how to fully understand your story and concept. It will highlight contributors and crew for your films, as well as budgets and locations.

SODANKYLÄ FOREVER: THE CENTURY OF CINEMA

FILMMAKER FOCUS: KIM LONGINOTTO
Kim Longinotto, who has also been confirmed as part of Encounters’ Documentary Jury, is one of the pre-eminent documentary filmmakers working today. She is renowned for creating extraordinary human portraits and tackling controversial topics with sensitivity and compassion. Longinotto's films have won international acclaim and dozens of premiere awards at festivals worldwide.

INTRO TO INTERACTIVE DOCUMENTARY
This panel is made up of key members from the i-Docs team, who have been instrumental in setting up the world's first international symposia on interactive documentary. Key topics covered will be around i-Docs published on tablets such as the iPad, collaborative documentary making on the web, and experiential documentaries which use locative media to augment reality.

STEAM OF LIFE
DIR: Joonas Berghäll, Mika Hotakainen
Playing as part of our celebration of all things Finnish at this year’s Encounters. The Small Room in the Parlour Showrooms on College Green will be transformed into a Finnish style sauna (CINE-SAUNA) screening a fine selection of short films, animations, as well the feature documentary Steam of Life – never shown before in the UK – providing an unmissable portrait of naked Finnish men in saunas speaking straight from the heart. 
The cine sauna will be open from 12 to 19:30,
