Work Experience

We run an ambitious and structured voluntary work experience and outreach programme across the year and encourage applicants from a variety of ages, background and locations.

Senior Production Accountant

We are looking for a Senior Production Accountant to be responsible for the production finance management and budget reporting for all our productions and provide day to day financial support to the Production teams and the Finance department to ensure a fully integrated production finance function.

Icon Films is based in central Bristol and has circa 60 people currently working remotely and in the office, a mixture of staff and freelancers.

Remote working is an option for this role with a preference for at least 1 day in the office per week, subject to government guidelines.

We have a diverse output and a wide customer base, working across the factual cable networks in the US and the terrestrial channels in the UK, so knowledge of international production and working with both US and UK clients is highly desirable.

This is a pivotal role in a fast paced environment in a growing company. We need someone with an eye for detail and the tenacity to see projects and tasks through to resolution. This role will be working closely with the Commercial Director, Finance Manager, Production Managers and Director of Production.

The applicant must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a television Production Accountant with an accountant qualification and be experienced using PMI.

Applicants responsibilities will include:

  • Management of the Junior Production Accountant, including supervising their day-to day role for accounts payable, allocation of productions under their responsibility and training in their role as and when required
  • Regular reviews of Cost Reports including costs to complete and preparation of Final Cost reports for delivery to broadcasters and Icon final cost report analysis
  • Management of recoverables, recharging and profitability analysis
  • Management of  production cash-flows
  • Ensure expenses and petty cash are posted in a timely fashion
  • Carry out monthly reconciliations of cost reports with accounting system
  • Reconcile productions to trial balance and provide final cost report analysis to CEO and department Execs at the close of each production
  • Company PMI super-user
  • Providing training and support for PMI users across Icon Films, including SMT members and new users
  • Set-up / Supervise the set-up of new cost managers as requested by commercial or production execs
  • Liaise with production team to ensure broadcaster funding invoices are issues in a timely manner in line with milestone deliverables
  • Review of aged debtors to resolve collectability issues
  • Calculation and posting of monthly revenue recognition accrual and pre-payment journals
  • Monitor timing of month end tasks and closing ledgers in PMI at the appropriate time, in order to meet reporting deadlines
  • Review petty cash, credit card and top-up card aged creditors to ensure all open amounts are cleared
  • Carry out ad hoc projects when required (e.g. budget checks for production execs, production spend analysis, recovery analysis, series comparisons)
  • Provide summaries of Production profitability for monthly SMT production reports
  • Dealing with production audits
  • Regular meetings with PMs and with the Director of Production to build and maintain collaboration between Production and Finance

Production Coordinators 

We are looking for Production Coordinators to start in Late October 2020 on an exciting new US/ International Network project.
We are Bristol based however the location is in Australia we are open to considering applicants based in any location including Australia – if the applicants are UK based they should be aware of the time difference as adjusted working times will be required.

Applicants must be experienced in setting up overseas foreign filming and offshore/ underwater filming.

It is important that the applicant has great communication skills and has managed shoot budgets and logistics.

Working closely with the Production Management Team they’ll need to be super-organised, diligent, enthusiastic and enjoy working as part of a team.
The applicant must have a minimum of two years experience within the role.

Applicants responsibilities will include:
• To co-ordinate the day to day operations of the production
• Setting up shoots to remote locations including obtaining filming permits, organising freights, liaising with dive services and boat bookings and booking flights and accommodation.
• Running shoot budgets
• Preparing call sheets/ production booklet and organising the day to day filming schedule
• Preparing, monitoring and delivering locations releases and paperwork
• Ensuring all location sensitive deliverables are communicated and delivered.
• Preparing location safety kit and working closely with the H&S lead on the team to support safe location working in a remote location.
• Booking kit and excess baggage
• Working with talent and crew to pull a the shoot together
• Understanding Covid 19 safe working protocol and helping to apply them to the production.

Shooting Producer/Director

Icon Films are looking for a senior shooting Producer/Director to work on a successful returning observational documentary series based in Africa.

8 Week contract starting in Jan 2021

The successful candidate will have excellent shooting skills and a strong track record in shooting observational documentaries. They’ll need very strong editorial judgement, an understanding of how to develop stories and characters – both human and wildlife – and have the ability to lead a happy team in sometimes challenging circumstances.  Although this role won’t involve time in the edit, experience of edit producing will be a huge advantage.  Previous foreign filming is desirable.

Icon Films are Bristol based but this is a location based position with just one week prep in Bristol

Candidates must have

  • Experience in observational documentary
  • Excellent shooting skills and knowledge of the latest camera technology
  • Proven leadership skills

Assistant Producer

Icon Films are looking for an experienced ASSISTANT PRODUCER to work on an exciting new presenter led adventure series filming in the Brazilian Amazon for a digital cable channel. Applicants must have foreign filming experience ideally in remote locations, have strong journalistic skills be able to generate programme content, work well under pressure and give attention to detail with . Experience of working for US channels would be an advantage. Fluency in Portuguese is essential. Start date 23rd November 2020
